Drexel University received a $112.6 million gift from the Howley Foundation, marking the largest philanthropic commitment in the university’s history and enabling a major engineering and computing expansion. The funding will establish the Nick Howley College of Engineering and Computing and create new academic and research infrastructure. Approximately $36 million will support 55,000 square feet of new classrooms, laboratories, and collaborative learning spaces, including facilities for robotics, flight simulation, jet engine labs, soil and concrete analysis, and labs for chemical engineering, materials science, and cell and gene therapy education. The gift also backs transformation of an additional 10,000-square-foot area into the Walter N. Howley Jr. Innovation Garage maker space. The remaining $76 million will fund the Howley College Scholars program, expanding scholarships and recruitment for students with limited means, particularly from Philadelphia and Cleveland—an affordability and access signal that can influence enrollment pipeline development.
