A new tranche of 95-year-old works — including early Betty Boop shorts and Blondie comics — has entered the U.S. public domain on Jan. 1, opening material for teaching, research and creative reuse without copyright clearance. Duke University’s Center for the Study of the Public Domain cataloged the entries, highlighting opportunities for film studies, digital humanities and copyright courses. Libraries, archives and university presses should audit holdings and course materials to identify newly available works and update syllabi and licensing strategies accordingly.
