Boston University announced that Susan Fournier, dean of the Questrom School of Business, will step down June 30, 2026 and retire from the university at year-end. Provost Gloria Waters—who is also leaving her post—made the announcement Friday, framing Fournier’s exit as the end of a deanship cycle. Fournier has driven a multi-year strategy of curriculum overhaul, expanded career services and online-program growth that lifted Questrom in rankings and research metrics. Under her leadership the undergraduate program and career-service standings rose substantially and research productivity increased across departments. The planned transition gives BU time to organize a national search and stabilize advancement and career-outcome initiatives that have underpinned recent enrollment and placement gains. Faculty and donors will watch the succession closely: a new dean will inherit a school repositioned for growth but operating amid broader fiscal and political pressures on higher education.
