USDA and the U.S. Department of Education opened a grant pathway for land-grant and other eligible institutions to improve agricultural research facilities. The program offers access to up to $30 million from a $121 million fund for property improvements, including project planning, small upgrades, mid-scale construction, and larger research facility work. Grant requirements include dollar-for-dollar matching contributions from non-federal sources and an application deadline of July 17. The initiative also requires applicants to describe financial pathways to sustain operations and maintenance after the grant period. For research-intensive colleges, the funding can strengthen capacity in labs and controlled environment facilities used for food and agricultural research. Facilities managers and compliance teams will need to coordinate planning grants with future construction rounds while meeting federal requirements and documentation standards.
