The National Student Clearinghouse Research Center reported that persistence and retention among first-year students who enrolled in fall 2024 reached their highest levels in nearly a decade. In the 2026 Persistence and Retention Report, nearly 86% of 2.62 million first-year students returned the following spring, essentially flat from a year earlier.
