MacKenzie Scott delivered another round of multi‑million dollar, mostly unrestricted gifts to historically Black colleges and universities, with sums announced this week that include some of the largest donations in those institutions’ histories. Several HBCUs reported seven‑figure, record gifts intended for endowments, scholarships and strategic initiatives. The scale and flexibility of Scott’s donations aim to give HBCU leaders room to advance student success and institutional priorities without donor‑imposed strings. Campus leaders described the gifts as defining and transformational; for institutions that historically have had smaller endowments, the contributions will alter capital and operating plans and prompt renewed conversations about long‑term sustainability and investment strategy.
