Families of four teenagers who died by suicide filed a lawsuit against Meta, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube, alleging years of platform harms including addiction, sleep deprivation, and mental health impacts. The complaint was filed in Delaware Superior Court by the Social Media Victims Law Center, with the cases spanning deaths from July 2024 through September 2025. The filing alleges the companies knew their platforms were causing harm and continued to do so despite earlier lawsuits in the space. A representative for Google said the company provides age-appropriate experiences with mental health and parenting experts and is reviewing the claims. The case adds to ongoing pressure on policy and compliance frameworks around student well-being and digital youth safety—an area where higher education institutions increasingly manage online risk in student services, counseling, and campus outreach.
