Southern Oregon University released a plan that would cut three undergraduate programs and the equivalent of roughly 66 full-time jobs, alongside a broader overhaul of academic operations. The proposal is tied to the university’s need to qualify for a one-time $15 million legislative infusion. The Oregon Legislature also directed SOU to return to a balanced budget for the 2027-29 biennium, with officials projecting the changes would save around $12 million annually. The plan would eliminate human service, music industry and production, and financial mathematics, and shift from multiple deans to a single dean structure. The governing board is set to vote on the proposal, while employees raised concerns that the cuts will weaken the institution after multiple prior workforce and belt-tightening moves.
