More than 400 employees at the University of Strathclyde — including technicians, cleaners and security staff — are balloting on strike action after university leadership announced plans to cut almost 80 roles to save £35m. Trade union Unite and the UCU say management failed to properly consult and have not ruled out compulsory redundancies. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham accused the university of treating staff with contempt and warned that industrial action could disrupt campus services, laboratory access and student residences. The university says it is implementing planned savings of £20m this year and a further £15m next year as part of a proactive financial reshaping exercise.
