FAFSA completion for the high school Class of 2026 reached a record level, according to reporting from the National College Attainment Network (NCAN). As of May 1, 54.7% of graduating seniors had completed the form—up from 53.9% the year before and 47.3% in 2024—measured ahead of the usual June 30 checkpoint. NCAN attributed the gains to an earlier open date for the form in September (instead of December), FAFSA simplification taking effect, and increased familiarity among counselors after the disruption of the 2024–25 rollout. It also pointed to universal completion policies now in place in nine states. The improvement matters as colleges and states use FAFSA completion to drive outreach, advising, and state scholarship eligibility, especially for students who need financial aid for timely enrollment.
