At the University of Central Florida and other campuses, students are embracing phone-free social gatherings to combat digital isolation. The Reconnect Movement, initiated by former UCF student Seán Killingsworth, promotes device-free interaction to foster authentic human connection. The movement has expanded to six colleges across four states and hosts inclusive community events. This initiative aligns with growing awareness of mental health challenges related to technology use among young adults and the rising trend in legislation restricting phone use in public schools to improve social engagement.
