A survey by the Center for Community College Student Engagement shows that more than half of parenting students enrolled in community colleges to change careers, with 71% citing caregiving responsibilities as likely to cause withdrawal or dropping out. Parenting students disproportionately face financial and time burdens, work more hours, and rarely access campus resources addressing food and housing insecurity. The findings suggest a pressing need for community colleges to tailor supports such as flexible scheduling, recorded lectures, and expanded counseling to better retain and empower parenting student populations.
