Texas A&M University’s 12-campus system is moving from pilots to systemwide deployment of an AI student engagement platform built to guide Pell-eligible learners to financial aid, registration, advising, and counseling resources. The system’s central challenge has been integration: leaders used the chatbot rollout with Mainstay to surface where student information was siloed or inaccessible, including gaps in emergency aid application support. System leaders say the effort required coordinated work across IT, financial aid, academic affairs, and student services rather than simply plugging in a tool. A key early win has been improved outreach to stopped-out students after enrollment breaks. By fall 2026, nine campuses are scheduled to integrate the platform, with leaders aiming to extend the same model into higher-need interventions such as mental health support—while acknowledging remaining silos.
