A 2025 Thriving College Student survey found 93% of students say mental health is important and 73% say they trust campus counseling services, but only 18% report receiving on‑campus treatment. The data show a clear gap between awareness and service uptake driven by stigma, perceived lack of time, and uncertainty about where support is offered—especially within residential communities. Survey highlights include that 42% of students are uncomfortable talking about mental health and 44% avoid help out of fear of judgment. Residential life was widely seen as hosting social connection (77%) but far fewer students believed it offered mental‑wellness support (33%). For student‑affairs leaders, the findings point to the need for low‑barrier access, clearer on‑campus pathways to care and stigma‑reduction efforts tied to housing and peer programs.
