A 2025 Thriving College Student survey finds nearly all students say mental health matters, but far fewer use on‑campus counseling services. While 93% agree mental health is important and 73% say they trust campus counseling, only 18% reported using those services; students cited stigma, time barriers and discomfort speaking openly. Residence life, student affairs and counseling centers face pressure to redesign outreach and access — from peer support models to telehealth partnerships — to close the gap between awareness and use and to protect retention and student success.
