Researchers at UC Irvine, Indiana University Bloomington and the University of Bremen launched TEACH‑AI, an initiative to train K–12 educators on environmentally conscious AI use. The project will develop a course for future teachers focused on minimizing AI’s carbon and water footprint while leveraging its classroom benefits for climate education. The program responds to teachers’ cautious stance on AI adoption and aims to provide practical guidance on tool selection, environmental trade-offs and pedagogical integration. While TEACH‑AI targets K–12, its curriculum design and sustainability focus offer models that higher-education teacher-preparation programs can adapt.
