The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Inspector General reported that staffing reductions early in the second Trump administration appear to have disrupted units handling statutory and oversight functions. The OIG said the reduction-in-force and related staffing changes led to eliminated suboffices across multiple department offices and contributed to grant and contract terminations, including areas affecting teacher training and mental health services.
