The Florida Board of Governors moved to slow the University of Florida’s presidential search over governance and compliance concerns, but UF trustees went ahead anyway—appointing Stuart Bell as interim president. The move followed delays and dispute between the system board chair, Alan Levine, and UF board leadership, including allegations of “sweeping authority” and compliance issues tied to UF Board Chair Mori Hosseini’s role and related real-estate and financial transactions. UF’s board voted to install Bell despite the system board’s pending review. Under the approved interim contract, Bell is set to start July 1 with a $2 million annual base salary. Levine said the system board would schedule a special meeting to vote on Bell’s permanent appointment as soon as legally possible.
