University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business named Yael Grushka-Cockayne as its 10th dean, effective Aug. 1, ending a national search that had been supported by executive search firm Korn Ferry. The appointment makes her the first woman appointed permanent dean in Darden’s 70-year history. Grushka-Cockayne currently serves as vice dean and is a longtime faculty member. UVA described her teaching and leadership record, including her work in the full-time MBA program and her involvement with ethical artificial intelligence initiatives. For Darden and peer business schools, the selection sets a near-term strategic direction: reinforcing Darden’s discussion-based teaching culture while leaning into AI and responsible leadership as curriculum priorities.
